As President Moves to Withhold Oil Subsidies, Oceana Urges a Halt to Offshore Drilling Expansion

“Oceana applauds the Obama Administration’s effort to level the playing field for clean sources of energy and to save taxpayers money by cutting tax preferences for dirty fossil fuels.

We also urge the Administration and Congress to halt the expansion of offshore drilling into previously protected areas, as well as the Arctic, as an expansion would not improve energy security or lower gas prices.

Expanding offshore drilling for oil and gas would further contribute to the release of harmful greenhouse gas emissions and compromise our clean energy future,” said Jackie Savitz, senior campaign director for Oceana.
