Captain Moore Talks Trash
Thanks to Sarah at WaterNotes, I noticed that plastic marine debris guru Capt. Charles Moore's recent TED Talk is now online.
Watch the talk below, but I'm warning you, there is no happy ending, no Al Gore-style- hope-for-the-future message. Moore's bottom line is that there's no feasible clean-up solution for an ocean that's increasingly becoming a plastic soup, where some areas contain more plastic than plankton. And he has images to prove it. The only answer, he says, is to stop plastic at its source, which is no easy task for the only animal on Earth that "makes waste that nature can't digest."
