Maximiliano Bello is a Habitat Protection and By Catch Reduction Campaign Director with extensive experience in marine protected areas and ecosystem management of Chile and the Antarctic. Prior to joining Oceana, Mr. Bello was co-founder and director of Chile’s Blue Whale Center, which received the President’s Bicentennial Seal in 2006 in recognition of the Center’s work in preserving the iconic marine species of this region. He was also involved in setting up the first WWF office in Chile and worked for Pumalin Park in 1998 in administration and ecotourism. Mr. Bello is published extensively and has performed research assistance on biodiversity assessments and surveys in the region. Mr. Bello is a veterinary surgeon by training, and holds a MSc. in Natural Resource Management from the University of Edinburgh, and a Diploma in Protected Areas Administration and Management from Costa Rica’s Universidad para la Cooperacion Internacional.
