I've loved being in the water since I was small and spent many hot summers swimming in the lakes and rivers around the Texas Hill Country. I grew up several hours from the Gulf, and standing in the ocean on South Padre Island for the first time is a very distinct and formative memory of fun and wonderment. When I was younger the beach and the ocean always meant; swimming until you wrinkled, trying to spot Portuguese Man o'Wars and dolphins, fighting with my brother over the last bodyboard, eating Gulf seafood and sno-cones, standing on sand so hot your feet blister, and licking your skin  just to taste the salt. To people from the temperate beaches of California or Hawaii some of this may sound like a special form of torture but to me it was endless fun.

I attended Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts and received a B.A. in International Relations and Religion. I have remained on the East Coast and now have had the opportunity to experience beaches, ocean waters, and fishing from Florida to Maine. I consider this a stroke of great luck after growing up so far from the ocean. I'm especially grateful that I get to work at an organization that protects the ocean and the livelihoods and memories that are inextricably linked to its health and well-being.
