Director, E-Activism

Position Description
The E-Activism Director leads all e-activism and web efforts for Oceana. This will include recruiting, retaining, activating and fundraising for Oceana’s international base of e-activists and/or wavemakers. In addition, the Director will be responsible– along with the Web Developer – for developing and managing Oceana’s global suite of websites, ensuring that these sites support Oceana’s campaign, e-activism, and other organizational goals. The Director will – in concert with the Vice President of Strategic Marketing and Communications – be responsible for creating and implementing Oceana’s online strategy.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
1. Create, update and maintain – in concert with VP -- online and activism strategy.
2. With VP, work to use technology to further Oceana’s communications and constituency building goals.
3. Build and maintain global base of e-activists.
4. Create and maintain international activism platform that enables e-activism, online giving and online organizing by Oceana’s wavemakers.
5. Meet specific goals for activist acquisition, retention and fundraising.
6. Develop and oversee Oceana’s international websites.
7. Ensure that websites support Oceana’s campaign and other organizational goals.
8. Develop and oversee business requirements and information architecture for Oceana’s websites.
9. Lead reporting and analysis of website and e-activism and provide recommendations for strategy(ies) to take advantage of this data.
10. Act as an internal “online evangelist” to get campaigns and organization to maximize benefits of online presence (web presence, e-activism, fundraising and organizing).
11. Work with international offices and campaigns to create online e-activism programs in support of other objectives.
12. Provide assistance in accomplishing communications goals as needed or requested by vice president.
13. Perform additional duties as needed and/or assigned.
Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s degree and five plus years of relevant experience in online community building, e-activism, online marketing.
2. Familiarity with e-activism software (e.g., Democracy in Action), open source CMS (e.g., Drupal), html, and also with direct marketing metrics, reporting and analysis
3. Experience in successfully designing, leading and implementing complicated web, community and e-activism marketing campaigns
4. Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
5. Ability to work cooperatively with staff, other organizations and the public.
6. Ability to meet strict deadlines and work under pressure while maintaining humor and high energy.
7. Familiarity with environmental issues highly desirable.
8. Ability to take initiative in suggesting ways to augment work and responsibilities of position to accomplish Oceana’s goals.
