Campaign to Stop Destructive Fishing: Intern
Description
Oceana is conducting multi-faceted campaigns to stop destructive fishing practices and to conserve, protect and restore ocean wildlife and benthic habitats. We are working to convince the U.S. Congress, federal agencies, regional fishery councils, state governments, and corporate and international entities to take proactive measures to accomplish our campaign goals. Oceana's interns will work closely with professional staff and assist the campaign and policy team with their substantive work protecting ocean habitat, including deep sea coral and sponge habitat and protecting and restoring threatened and endangered sea turtles . There will be opportunities to accompany staff on Congressional and Administration meetings, attend hearings, support educational initiatives, and increase public awareness through media and membership outreach.
Qualifications
The ideal candidates should possess:
- Excellent research, writing, and communication skills
- A solid academic record
- Maturity to support a team effort
- Energy, enthusiasm, and a strong desire to learn
- Ability to work independently on discrete projects
- A strong commitment to environmental issues
Interns should be available to work 30 hours a week for at least 10 weeks. Stipends are available. Oceana accepts interns who receive academic credit for their internship. Ocean policy and science experience not required. Undergraduates, recent graduates, and graduate students are all encouraged to apply.
